Is there any optional subject that helps with the preparation of another subject of General Studies, thereby increasing the chances of selection in UPSC CSE? Let us help you with the answer to the same.
Law as an optional subject has a significant impact on one's chances of success in both the UPSC Prelims and the UPSC Mains examination. Its popularity stems from the UPSC Syllabus, which includes a significant overlap between General Studies and Law. Law requires basic understanding of the rules and laws governing the society. It is not only a popular option for UPSC aspirants with a background in law, finance, international trade, administration, and management but the one’s who are completely unaware of the provisions of law.
Constitutional, Administrative, and International Law are covered in Paper 1 of the UPSC Law Optional Syllabus. Paper 1 is worth a total of 250 marks. Even if an aspirant does not have a legal background, s/he will be able to cover the topics if the polity section is thoroughly prepared.
The UPSC Law Optional Syllabus for Paper 2 tests an aspirant on the provisions of Law of Crimes, Law of Torts, and many other topics that are further subdivided. To create a scoring answer, the topics must be related to current events.
