Anthropology is the study of human beings and their ancestors through time and space and in relation to physical character, environmental and social relations, and culture. In a word, it is the science of Human Kind. It studies all aspects of Human beings such as the Social-cultural-Biological aspects. Since Human beings are involved in almost all streams, so the scope of Anthropology is expanding day by day.

Anthropology as an Optional Subject in UPSC:

Anthropology is one of the optional subjects in the UPSC-Civil Services Examination. It comprises two papers with a weightage of 500 marks. The UPSC Anthropology syllabus for Civil Services Exam focuses on the candidates' ability to understand the subject as science and apply the knowledge to problems faced by the people.
