Context: On occasion of Teacher’s Day, Prime Minister announced a scheme, PM Shri to develop 14,500 schools as model schools.

About Scheme:

PM-Shri (Schools for Rising) Scheme is a centrally sponsored scheme which aims to upgrade and develop more than 14,500 schools across the country by strengthening the selected existing schools which are managed by central government in which it has defined shareholding.

Salient Features of scheme:

  1. National Education Policy (NEP): The schools will showcase all components of National Education Policy 2020 and act as exemplar school and offer mentorship to other schools in their vicinity.
  2. Outcome: Focus will be on achieving proficiency in learning outcomes of every child in every grade.
  3. Assessment at all levels will be based on conceptual understanding and application of knowledge to real life situations and will be competency based.
  4. Energy Efficient: These schools shall also be developed as green schools with water conservation, waste recycling, energy efficient infrastructure and integration of organic lifestyle curriculum.
  5. Pedagogy will more experiential, holistic, integrated, play based, inquiry driven, discovery-oriented, learner centered, flexible and enjoyable.

About Centrally Sponsored and Central Sector Schemes:

Central Sector Schemes are schemes which are implemented by central government in which finance is totally sourced by central government.

Centrally Sponsored Schemes are schemes which are implemented by state government and funding is shared by central and state government which is pre-defined.
