Arsenic and iron in water: 30,000 rural habitations affected, 20,000 in two states (IE) Iron is the most common contaminant of drinking water, with over 18,000 rural habitations affected, followed by salinity that affects roughly 13,000 rural habitations, arsenic (12,000), fluoride (nearly 8,000) and heavy metal.

INDIA and ADB sign $206 million loan to strengthen urban services in 5 Tamil Nadu cities (PIB) The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Government of India on 2nd December 2019 signed a $206 million loan to develop water supply and sewerage infrastructure in 5 cities of Tamil Nadu and strengthen capacities of urban local bodies (ULBs) for improved service delivery.

India and Sweden sign Memorandum for India-Sweden Healthcare Innovation Centre (PIB) Our collaboration with Sweden has been exemplary and defining. The MoU between India and Sweden is one of the most active and successful bilateral MoUs signed by India in the health sector”

Opening Ceremony India-Nepal Joint Military Exercise Surya Kiran – XIV (PIB) The 14th edition of bilateral annual military exercise SURYA KIRAN-XIV between Indian and Nepal Army commenced today at Nepal Army Battle School (NABS), Salijhandi, Rupendehi district of Nepal. The 13th edition of the joint military exercise was held at Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand in June last year.

Election Commission of India to implement “Political Parties Registration Tracking Management System” (PPRTMS) (PIB) The Election Commission of India has reviewed the system and process of registration of political parties. The new guidelines will be effective from 1st January,2020.  Accordingly, the “Political Parties Registration Tracking Management System” (PPRTMS) will be implemented through an online portal, to facilitate tracking of status of application by applicants.

Parliament passes the Special Protection Group (Amendment) Bill, 2019 (PIB) Parliament today passed the Special Protection Group (Amendment) Bill, 2019. Replying to the debate on the Bill in the house, Union Minister for Home Affairs, Shri Amit Shah said that as per the intent of the original law, SPG focusses on Prime Minister's security, as the PM is constitutionally the Head of the Government.

Parliament passes the Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu (Merger of Union Territories) Bill, 2019 (PIB) Parliament passed the Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu (Merger of Union Territories) Bill, 2019 today. Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Shri G. Kishan Reddy addressed the Rajya Sabha and said that the bill has been brought to provide for merger of union territories of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, in view of fruitful utilization of manpower, improve administrative efficiency, reduce administrative expenditure and improve service delivery as well as facilitate better monitoring of schemes. It would also ensure better cadre management of employees, he added.

Company Law Committee recommends decriminalisation of compoundable offences under Companies Act (PIB) The Company Law Committee, constituted by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) vide order dated 18.09.2019, has submitted the first phase report to the Union Finance & Corporate Affairs Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman on 18th November, 2019, proposing amendments in the Companies Act, 2013 for further decriminalising the offences under the said Act and to facilitate ease of doing business and ease of living.
