In News:

  • The Army had taken retaliatory action against terror camps along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu & Kashmir, destroying at least three.

The Indian Army Attack

  • The Indian Army Attack resulted after the definitive information of terrorists attempting infiltration from camps in the Tangdhar and Keran sectors.
  • The Army also said Pakistan had resorted to unprovoked ceasefire violation, targeting civilians, in which two soldiers and a civilian had been killed.
  • There had been a series of infiltration attempts from the Gurez, Tangdhar, Uri, and Macchil sectors and in areas south of Pir Panjal recently.

  • India shares 3323 km long and complicated boundary with Pakistan.
  • The India-Pakistan boundary is categorized under three different heads:

1.Radcliffe line: It is 2308 km long and stretches from Gujarat to parts of Jammu district in Jammu and Kashmir.

  1. Line of Control (LoC), or the Cease Fire Line: Came into existence after the 1948 and 1971 wars between India and Pakistan.
  2. And the third is the actual ground position line (AGPL), which is 110 km long and extends from NJ 9842 to Indira Col in the North (Siachin Glacier).

Present Context in India-Pakistan Relation

  • There were initiatives taken by the government, for example, inviting the Prime Minister of Pakistan for the swearing-in ceremony of the new PM of India, an unscheduled visit to Lahore by the Indian PM to the residence of the PM of Pakistan, which showed some signs of positive development.
  • The attack on the Indian Air Force Base in 2016 (Pathankot) January, just a few days after Indian PM visited the Pakistani counterpart left India embittered.
  • Uri Terror Attack: The attack on the Uri Army base camp in 2016 was also carried by an organization, has its roots in Pakistan. (Lashkar-e-Toiba, also responsible for 26/11 attacks)
  • Kulbhushan Jadhav Case: a retired Indian Naval officer arrested nears the Iran-Pakistan border in Baluchistan region by the Pakistani establishment and accused of espionage by Pakistan.
  • Pulwama Terror Attack: In 2019, a convoy of vehicles carrying security personnel on the Jammu Srinagar National Highway was attacked by a vehicle-borne suicide bomber in the Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Future of India-Pakistan relationship

  • India and Pakistan are neighbours. Neighbours can’t be changed. Thus, it is in the better of interest of both the nations that they bring all the issues on the drawing board and resolve them amicably.
